IF I WERE A MILLIONAIRE!
"Money makes the mare go" is a well-known saying. The importance of money in day-to-day life cannot be denied. The rich enjoy all the comforts and luxuries of modern life but the poor fail to get even the bare necessities of life. I very often dream of becoming so rich that I could have billions of dollars at my disposal. If it were so, I have thought of several projects for the well-being of the poor Of With the immense wealth at my disposal I would lay down the foundation of trust after my name. I would invest a huge sum of money in different National Saving Schemes and place a large amount of money in Fixed Deposit in a bank. In this way the trust would have a permanent source of income- My country would also benefit in carrying through various development plans, Poor students would be given scholarships out of the regular income from these investments. This income would also be used for carrying on other schemes. In this respect, there is the noble examp7e of Sir Ganga Ram - the great philanthropist of Lahore. I would try to follow him. Sir Ganga Ram and Imran Khan, I would open a general hospital where sick and wounded people of my town would get absolutely free of charge medical care and would be looked after sympathetically.
The rich would, of course, pay for their treatment. The hospital would have highly qualified doctors and nurses and the latest medical and surgical equipment and facilities. My second plan would be to establish a network of very good technical schools, colleges, computer training centers, and industrial homes. Because, in my opinion, purely general education cannot solve the unemployment problem of our country. Technical training
and technical education would create new job opportunities for our young boys and girls. [t would also elevate the standard of living of our country. Thirdly, I would construct orphanages and poor houses. The children who would have lost their parents would be kept in orphanages, Free education, free boarding, and lodging would be provided to them and every effort would be made to help them establish in life. Old persons who have nobody to look after them would be kept in old age homes where they would be looked after and taken care of properly.
Fourthly, I would construct a recreation complex where several healthy recreational facilities would be available for anyone and everyone. There would be a reading room where daily newspapers and magazines would be available; besides some interesting and useful books would also be placed on the shelves. There would be facilities for playing indoor games like chess, table tennis, billiards, etc. A section of the complex would be reserved for gymnastics. A large swimming pool would also be constructed for the young people to enjoy swimming especially on the hot days.
In short, I would use my immense wealth to improve the living conditions of the young and the old people of my town. Thus, when departing from this world I would have the satisfaction of leaving behind a noble legacy. Perhaps, others would also follow my example. and a new tradition of selfless service would begin.
