THE STUDENTS ROLE IN THE
CREATION OF ENVIRONMENT

The students are the most vital section of our society. It is they who shape the future and change the destiny of a nation. They have brought about a revolution in many countries of the world. Even the Quaid-I-Azam was obliged to ask the Muslim Students Federation to jump into the political arena of the sub-continent and work for the creation of Pakistan. The student’s role is very important because of various reasons. They possess immense energy, great courage, purity of head and heart, and awareness of the environment. Once they decide to evolutionist their environment, they can put the nation on the road to progress.

Now, the environment has become a major problem faced by the modern world. The advancement of science and technology and the establishment of new factories have brought horrible side - effects also. The smoke and fumes coming out of various chemical plants are polluting the air and the earth. The air has become unfit for breathing. The ozone layer protecting the earth from the harmful rays of the sun has already been torn to an alarming extent.

Modern means of transport have also added much to pollute this planet. Population explosions are also responsible for polluting the environment. Another cause of increasing pollution is the extensive use of chemicals for getting more and more food grains, oilseeds, and fruits. The waste drained out of these industrial units is thrown into the rivers, canals, and the sea. Even the fish and other sea animals are also infected and are dying in large numbers. The meat of the goats, cow.9and other animals has also become toxic.

And especially the discovery of nuclear energy has wrought havoc. It is spreading and polluting the air, the water, and the earth. Human existence has become uncertain on this planet. Trees and plants, which are the great friends of man and other animal life, are being cut down for using them as fuel, for construction of houses and furniture, etc. The continent of Africa was destroyed by the Romans more than two thousand years ago.

Every country must have at least 25% of its total area covered by trees. unfortunately, only 3.5% of our land is covered with trees. The government of Pakistan is observing plantation days twice a year. Each year in February and August' tree plantation campaigns' are launched in which the students mostly take part. Thus, every year hundreds of million trees are planted. Because they are the only natural means of filtering the polluted air.

In all the good schools and colleges, seminars are held in which the latest information and measures are brought within the reach of the common man. Articles are written in various magazines and newspapers. Which bring about this awareness, I am sure you will agree with me, that this credit goes to the students. Tree plantation has become a part of their social work.
